以公共交通为导向的开发(TOD)应将公共交通车站设在不超过400-800米( 四分之一至半英里)步行范围内;开发密度应随与公交站距离的缩小而适当增加。公共交通为导向的开发能够节约用地,鼓励人们步行和骑自行车,同时降低基础设施的成本和能源消耗。
以公共交通为导向的开发可以分为以下类型:
- 核心带 – 对区域具有重要意义的高密度市中心区,具有两种或两种以上高容量的公共交通系统。
- 中心 – 混合功能的住宅商业和就业区,并有两种以上公共交同方式 。
- 村 –地方经济和社区活动的小型中心,具有公共交通服务。
目的地 – 机构及大学、体育场馆以及区域性公园。
